Path of Fire and
Light: Himalayan Yogic Awareness
The himalayan path of Raja yoga is also called the
path of Fire and Light. The fire is latent
within us in its elemental form, often only used for
food digestion purposes (jataragni). Only sincere
practitioners of yoga whose kundalini has awakened
and risen have truly become aware of the power of
the fire within us. During powerful breathing
techniques of Agnisara, the latent fire can be
stoked into a rising flame. This flame takes effect
as the heat that burns the toxins along the spine
and finally clears the nadi pathways along the
subtle body and explodes as powerful light
connecting us to the infinite consciousness.
The fire within us also rises upwards in the subtle
body as a purified essence of sublimated 'tejas'
(radiance of the sun within). Fuelled further by the
prana, this fire rises the kundalini shakti.
Hence fire is regarded is the purifier within us.
Yogis in the himalayas have always maintained a fire
place (dhuni) in their caves and meditated over the
fire. The fire consistently provides the depth of
purity, and connection to the source of kundalini
power (naga lokas).
My experiment with fire consciousness
It was 6 am (24/8/2011) in the morning at Kampala (uganda).
I jumped out of my bed with a deep urge to connect
with fire. Within a few minutes I traced a candle,
placed it over a table and lit it. I then pulled a
chair and sat in front of the flame. The flame was
just like any other, nothing special about it.
Everything seemed right to switch from the ordinary
into the extra-ordinary.
I took a deep breath and let out a deep resonating
chant of AUMMMMM. The vibrations pierced through the
flame, I could instantly see several transitions
happening. I then invoked the kundalini shakti by
uttering the bija mantra and the flame rose
higher and began to dance like a hooded cobra. I was
not alone in the room, vinaya's cousin vidya and her
son Rishi came to see the spectacular rise of flame.
Within a few moments, the flame transformed into a
pillar of light (jyotirlinga) and rose higher.
Vinaya came down and took some pictures of the flame
rising and change hues.
Note: The picture featured below can hardly do
justice to seeing it live. However this can serve as
inspiration to many who want to explore the path of
higher consciousness. Vinaya helped to stitch the 6
pictures together so that we can preview the
transition of the flame at a glance.
